Taking a road trip from Hudson Valley Region of NYS to Mount Rushmore, SD.Traveling by van with my 77 year old dad and my 11 year old daughter. My age is somewhere in between. Lol. Want to record and share my thoughts and experiences while on the road and taking in the sites of the US of A and spending time with my two favorite people!

Began our trip this morning, Tuesday August 7, 2012. My daughter wanted to leave early but we got a late start. We were on the road by 9am. We made it to Binghamton by 12pm. Took Rt 17/86 in NYS, instead of picking up 80 and going through PA. The scenery was so beautiful. Brought food in an AC/DC cooler and another filled with ice. We made good time, not having to stop for meals.
Lake Erie looked so breathtakingly immense to me as we were coming into Erie, PA late in the afternoon. Made it to Cleveland by 6pm. Passed the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I wish we had had time to stop. On TripAdvisor, I discovered a great little motel in Sandusky, Ohio, not far at all from Lake Erie and Cedar Point Amusement Park. Too bad there isn't time to take in either. I think I will be returning here again one day.
Our motel is charming. It is nothing fancy, but the room is clean and the bed is comfortable. The grounds are great for a family to enjoy with a figure 8 pool, picnic tables, and grass for the kids to run around and play in. My daughter went for a swim in the pool. The owners, a mother and son are very hospitable. Met some of the other guests. There is a nice family atmosphere here.
Asked the son where I could go for some good ice cream. He told me about Tofts. They have an ice cream shop right where they make it. It was a 10-15 minute drive, but well worth it. It was just about the best chocolate chip ice cream I ever tasted!!! A $3 small gets you two flavors of delicious ice cream and they give you two scoops of each flavor. That's four scoops of ice cream for $3!!! Looking forward to donuts for breakfast in the morning.
